the best thing i could have ever imagined, THAT’S WHAT.
slowly becoming one of my favorite retailers, alternative apparel (more recently called just “alternative“) offers organic cotton and eco-friendly materials in fashion forward silhouettes without breaking the bank. they sustainably grow organic pima cotton in peru while employing native workers and compensating them fairly. they recently have busted open the door for organic cotton fabrics by creating 6 different textiles out of one fiber. talk about innovative, yeah?! since i want to have my own organic/sustainable/eco-friendly brand one day, alternative is definitely a company to look up to.
the company’s creative/design team is based in LA lead by orondava mumford the previous global design director at levi’s. when you look at companies that create fashion out of organic materials, they sometimes tend to lack a fashion forward sensibility about them. alternative, however, seems to be able to integrate their superior quality and craftsmanship into wearable, trend on pieces.
alternative has a few stores in california, but as of spring 2014 they opened a store right here in new york!
the store is located in soho at 281 lafayette street (between houston and prince streets) and i had the pleasure of visiting the other week! check out some shots of the store and check out the store for yourself. you will NOT be disappointed 🙂
