Happy Hump Day, y’all!
Recently, I took a Saturday road trip with my friends to Cold Spring, New York. I love a good road trip moment, so I took advantage fully.
We grabbed a ZipCar & headed just about an hour or so north to Cold Spring, NY. This little town is packed with character & some serious small town rustic vibes. We all know I love a good rustic cafe, restaurant, or venue. Cold Spring had much to offer us. The town has a great little “main street” area that’s boasting with antique shops, restaurants, and markets. We grabbed brunch at a small little restaurant called Hudson Hil’s. The small town vibes set the tone for the very country style of the restaurant. I decided, “why not?” and tried the daily special. Here we have a shrimp, chicken, & suages gumbo over long grain rice served with a fried egg on top & corn bread to dip. Like??? Can we just talk about that for a minute? It was incredible! I’m a sucker for a gumbo or an okra soup & this combination delivered with a punch.
After we finished up brunch, we had a time to check out the different shops & store fronts. My favorite was the Cold Spring General Store. The shop was straight out of a Brooklyn hipster’s dream…so naturally I was obsessed. The shop is stocked full of organic chocolates, teas, meats, & beers. The general store felt like a little shop off Bedford Avenue but was nestled right off the main street & made me feel right at home.
The other place I fell in love with was the Cold Spring Apothecary. Now, this spot may or may not have been why my friend David was trying to hard to get up to Cold Spring in the first place. Let me say, though, that if this was his motive, I CANNOT BLAME HIM. The entire apothecary is chock full of incredibly scented oils, candles, cosmetics, and even has it’s own hair salon! Apparently the owner is from Brooklyn & designed the packaging all herself. No wonder it looks like an Instagram haven. Absolutely brilliant!
Long story short, you should really consider taking a weekend and visiting up to Cold Spring. The small town has so much to offer that I wish we could have stayed the whole weekend. Enjoy brunching, shopping, & the beautiful mountains that surround this small town. Nothing says relaxation quite like a little time away from this noisy city.
Enjoy!
